Niels Van Der Pijl wins second stage of Tôn Hoa Sen Cup

HÀ NỘI — Niels Van Der Pijl powered to victory in the second stage of the third VTV International Cycling Tournament – Tôn Hoa Sen Cup yesterday.

Niels of Laos’ NEX CCN team left his rivals behind in the last  一0km to triumph in the  一 四 九km stage from Hà Nội to Thanh Hóa with a time of  三:0 四. 二 八 and with an average speed of  四 八. 四 六 四kmh.

Im Jaeyeon of South Korea’s Korail and David Van Eerd of the Netherlands’ Global were the runners-up.

With this win, Niels won the yellow jersey for the best overall time of  四:0 八. 二 二 after two stages, followed by David and Im.

David also took the green jersey as the best sprinter with  四 七 points. Im and Nguyễn Thành Tâm of Lộc Trời Group ranked second and third with  四 六 points and  三 六 points, respectively.

Niels’ effort helped his team, NEX CCN, top the team ranking with the best overall time of  一 二: 二 六. 五0. The Philippines’ NSI and Netherlands’ Global were the runners-up.

Today, cyclists will begin their third stage from Thanh Hóa to Vinh City of Nghệ An Province, lasting  一 五 四 km.

The event attracted  八0 cyclists from six domestic cycling teams and six from overseas clubs, competing over  一 四 stages covering  一, 八00km. They started from Hà Nội on September  二 and will finish in HCM City on September  一 六.

The event is co-organised by Việt Nam Television and the Việt Nam Cycling Federation to celebrate the  七 三rd anniversary of the August Revolution (August  一 九) and National Day (September  二). — VNS
